Brahim-Djamal Kessali, president of the Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies "UAR", said on national radio that an insurer pool has been formed to elaborate a specific product for drought risk.
This risk, which has a strong presence in Algeria because of its semi-arid climate, is not included in the CAT-NAT compulsory insurance.
Note that despite its mandatory nature, the latter struggles to evolve, with a turnover of 1.7 million DZD (21.7 million USD) in 2013, it has had a 3% increase since 2009.
