Oct 2014 According to a study conducted by Swiss Re, natural catastrophes triggered 41 billion USD of damages in the first half of 2014, against 59 billion USD sustained a year earlier.
A figure well below the average value of the last ten years set at 94 billion USD. By adding man-made catastrophes, the total damages amounted to 44 billion USD for the first six months of the ongoing year.
Damages covered by insurance for natural catastrophes, alone, cost the market 19 billion USD (21 billion USD over the same period in 2013) and 21 billion USD including man-made catastrophes (25 billion USD over the same period in 2013).
