May 2015 The Mauritian government has recently announced its decision to close down Bramer Bank and to put the British American Investment Group (BAI) under trusteeship.
Following this measure, the Botswana authorities have reacted and decided to put BAI’s local insurance subsidiary under trusteeship. BAI’s insurance activities in Botswana are recent as the Mauritian group has just started operations there in 2013.
This decision does not invalidate the license of the company that could still conduct common transactions and operations. BAI also has activities in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda and Tanzania.
