Jul 2015 Since the withdrawal of compulsory insurance in 1995, the marine transport insurance has been working at idling speed. In 2014, the production of this branch was limited to just over 1 billion USD, a figure able to increase by 600 million USD if only 1% of the potential of external trade was operated.
According to estimates of insurers on the Algerian territory, the share of marine transportation insurance might reach 5 billion USD if underwriting became mandatory again for importers.
