Since the withdrawal of compulsory insurance in 1995, the marine transport insurance has been working at idling speed. In 2014, the production of this branch was limited to just over 1 billion USD, a figure able to increase by 600 million USD if only 1% of the potential of external trade was operated.
According to estimates of insurers on the Algerian territory, the share of marine transportation insurance might reach 5 billion USD if underwriting became mandatory again for importers.
