Reinsurance prices sharply lower than expected

According to Guy Carpenter, the decrease in reinsurance prices by next January 1st is going to be more important than previously expected. In recent months, observers expected a moderate decrease ranging between, -5% and -7.5%.

Today, Guy Carpenter is expressing his pessimism, referring to a decrease above 10%. According to the American broker, the high capacities available, coupled with the absence of major claims will have a more serious impact than initially expected.

Reinsurers are nonetheless called upon to remain careful not to underwrite loss-making business just for the sake of preserving their portfolio.
