In 2016, climate change appears as the most harmful new risk that may have a very high impact on the world economy. This is what emerges from the latest report "Global Risks Landscape 2016" published on the occasion of the Davos World Economic Forum, held from 20 to 23 January, 2016.
The failure of natural catastrophe mitigation measures and the difficulties of governments to deal with this event make this a growing threat. Material as well as human damage that could be caused by climate change seems much larger than that of other risks.
Climate change-related events, may, in the long run, generate a collapse of ecosystems with a water crisis and loss of biodiversity.
The occurence of those risks would lead to a shortage of raw materials. Other types of damage such as the ones related to population migration and the breakdown of the supply chain can also darken the picture.
