According to local media, motor insurance rates are more expensive in Saudi Arabia than in the rest of the Arab world. These prices may even be twice as high as those charged outside the kingdom.
The insurance premium for a mid-range vehicle such as the Toyota Camry, costs on average, 400 USD per year in Saudi Arabia against 205 USD in Jordan, 187 USD in Egypt, 173 USD in United Arab Emirates, 160 USD in Bahrain, 110 USD in Qatar, 93 USD in Kuwait and finally 80 USD in Lebanon.
This price difference is partly accounted for the high amount of the lump-sum compensation due to the victims' families in case of death of the damaged third party (blood money).
This compensation has tripled in recent years. Regardless of this premium surcharge factor, Saudi insurers are increasingly incorporating more additional covers in motor insurance policies.
