Apr 2016 The Kenyan government has launched an insurance scheme in favour of farmers in association with the World Bank. The coverage is meant to protect the farmers against most frequent hazards including droughts and floods. The bulk of poor Kenyan folks are smallholder farmers, hence the great significance of this plan for Kenya. It has been built around two dimensions: livestock insurance along with corn and wheat coverage.
Livestock insurance started timidly in October 2015, but is expected to get extended by 2017 to the entire country. According to this project, the State shall make recourse to private insurers in order to underwrite a drought insurance policy for the benefit of small pastoralists.
