Apr 2010 MS & AD Insurance Group Holdings is becoming the greatest non life insurer in Japan. It was born from the tripartite merger between Mitsu Sumitomo Insurance Group Holding, Aioi Insurance and Nissay Dowa General Insurance. This move has been effective as of April 1, 2010. No sooner had the group been established, it announced it was engaged in talks for the acquisition of life insurance companies based in India and China. Its future president, Toshiaki Egashira, has stated that the poor growth rates of insurance in Japan pushed his firm to seek growth outside the country.
