Dec 2016 Holders of land motorized vehicles are under the obligation of detaining an ECOWAS brown card as of October 1, 2016. This card is delivered by the Senegalese national office of brown card (BNS). The ECOWAS brown card insurance system allows free traffic of motorists and promotes regional integration. People injured in car accidents may benefit from compensation in the event of a claim caused by a driver from another country member of the ECOWAS.
All CIMA zone member States have obtained territorial extension of the motor third party liability cover.
