Out of the 20.8 million cars registered in Turkey by the end of September 2016, 16.8 million, that is 80.8% of the car fleet, are endowed with motor third party liability scheme, a compulsory policy.
According to the institute of statistics, 53.4% of the vehicles registered are tourism cars, 16.3% are trucks and 14.4% are moped. The remainder of the car fleet is made up of buses, mini-buses and vehicles for special purposes. The ten cities where motorists are most insured exhibit a penetration rate for motor TPL of 88%.
