Jan 2017 During the recent four years, Guinea has reported more than 1 400 serious injuries resulting from road crashes. Motor insurance is compulsory, yet most motorists are not insured. Because of inadequate revenues and for cultural and sociological reasons, Guineans have turned their backs to insurance.
Devoid of any insurance coverage for the party at fault in an accident, victims must theoretically be managed by the Motor Guarantee Fund. Given that this state structure is hardly known, victims undergoing accidents have very limited recourse to it. The fund has been supplied by insurance companies thanks to a tax levied on contracts.
