Jun 2017 AXA Re, reinsurer of AXA group, has obtained the approval of the Indian Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRDAI) to open a branch in India.
The French insurer Axa is already present in the country through a direct property damage company Bharti Axa General Insurance and a life insurance company Bharti Axa Life, two joint ventures established in partnership with the Indian conglomerate Bharti.
Similarly to the large groups already settled in India such as Swiss Re, Munich Re, Scor, Axa hopes to take advantage of the new legislation authorizing foreign companies to establish reinsurance branches in India.
