Slowdown of merger-acquisition transactions for the first half of 2017

According to a report published by Clyde & Co. consultancy firm, merger-acquisition activities have gone down during the first half of 2017.

In the insurance industry, the number of operations dwindled from 186 transactions by the end of June 2016 to 170 twelve months later.

This downward trend is even more acute for the entire economic sectors. In insurance, merger-acquisition transactions have nonetheless reported an increase in America where they rose from 81 to 86 operations. Likewise, for the Middle East and Africa where the transactions increased with eight against two for the previous year. In Europe, mergers-acquisitions have reported a 24% decrease.

The report points to this slowdown, attributing it to the political uncertainty that reigns in Greece, Russia and the United Kingdom following the Brexit.
