Regulations may seem unfair. Indeed, an insurer may, under certain conditions, terminate the contract of a customer who has been so unfortunate as to accumulate accidents for which he is not necessarily responsible. Even worse, the insured may even be listed as a bad driver. Here is a case that has recently been identified in France.
A pensioner offered himself a camping car for his 65th birthday. Recognized by his insurer as a perfect driver, he was given a 50% discount on his insurance premium as a reward.
Between May 2016 and December 2017, the trouble began for the insured following seven claims among which he was responsible for only one. The insurer notified the 65-year-old of the decision to terminate his contract on the grounds of an excessive number of accidents that occurred in a short period of time. The insurance company added that their retiree would be on the list of bad drivers. This procedure causes difficulties for the insured who will not be able to underwrite a policy with other insurers or at least obtain a contract with a reasonable premium.
To defend his rights, the pensioner started an appeal against this decision. On March 8, 2018, he received a refusal from the board of appeal set up by insurers.
