Several studies and papers presented during the African Reinsurance Forum have allowed to take stock of the situation of agricultural insurance in Tunisia. Statistics show that with a premium volume of 24.4 million TND (18.3 million USD) out of a total amount of 878 million TND (660 million USD) collected in 2007, agricultural insurance accounts for only 2.78% of the Tunisian market. According to the business experts, the deficit in farmers' affiliation (40 000 affiliates, that is, 7.75% of the total number of farm operators) is accounted for by the land parceling as well as by the high cost of premiums.
