The "Mendocino Complex" wildfire is the worst catastrophe ever recorded in California. Since the fires started on July 27, 2018, more than 118,000 hectares have been swept through in a few days.
Extraordinary means have been deployed to fight the blaze and try to contain the damage. More than 14,000 firefighters along with a few thousand soldiers have been at work. Assisted by a Boeing 747 converted into a tanker aircraft, they have managed to control only 30% of the reported fires.
To date, the disaster has claimed the lives of 9 people and has resulted in the evacuation of 20,000 residents.
