According to insurance and reinsurance broker Aon, the economic damage caused by natural disasters [4] reached 45 billion USD in the first half of 2018. This amount is significantly lower (-64%) than the average of the last ten years. Insured losses during the reporting period amounted to 21 billion USD, which corresponds to 47% of the total volume of economic damage.
Despite this significant drop in losses, analysts fear the return of the scenario of 2017: a year that was mild during the first eight months and disaster stricken during the last four months.
