To minimize the damage caused by hail in Switzerland, the insurance company "Bâloise" is testing an aircraft tasked with turning hail into snow or rain.
The plane will release silver iodide below the clouds. It is a substance that interrupts the formation of large hailstones. The process will reduce the probability of hail by 50%.
"Bâloise" ensures that the dispersed substance is harmless to the environment and that its use has been approved by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN).
