Typhoon Jebi, which hit Japan on Tuesday, September 5, 2018, claimed the lives of 11 people and injured nearly 600 others according to a first toll. Thousands of civilians were evacuated from their homes, said the Japanese authorities. It is the most powerful typhoon in the recent 25 years. The material damage is already estimated at several billions of USD.
The disaster would certainly weigh on the country's economy, already hit by the torrential rains of July which caused 220 deaths and heavy material damage.
It should be noted that the two most expensive natural disasters in history took place in Japan: the 2011 earthquake on the Pacific coast of Tohoku, which cost 235 billion USD and the Kobe earthquake (1995) which made nearly 100 billion USD in damage.
