In less than one year of its launch, the digital currency project Libra, initiated by Facebook, is facing a major problem. PayPal, one of the main partners of the project, announces that it is leaving the Libra Association, the group gathering the founding members of the future cryptocurrency. PayPal, which had to invest at least 10 million USD in the program, gives no explanation for its withdrawal.
As a reminder, the Libra project was originally launched by Facebook to overcome the banking systems traditionally used on the social network platform. The American Congress, skeptical of the idea of a currency managed by a private group, called in July 2019 for the project to be halted pending further examination of the risks related to it.
