Jordanian insurance market: significantly rising profits in 2018

In 2018, the Jordanian insurance market [4] reported a turnover of 605.8 million JOD (854.443 million USD), rising by 2% compared to the previous year. The net profit before tax increased by 622% at 19.5 million JOD (27.5 million USD) while the technical profit rose by 388.57%, exceeding the 17 million JOD (24 million USD).

Health insurance which recorded a loss of 16.1 million JOD (22.64 million USD) in 2017 became profitable in 2018 showing a gain of 3.4 million JOD (4.8 million USD). This same class of business accounted for 30.1% of the written premiums. Motor insurance constituted 37% of the turnover while life insurance accounted for only 14.2% of the market premiums.
