In partnership with the Société Nationale d'Assurances et de Réassurances (SONAR-IARD) and the Mutuelle Agricole Marocaine d'Assurance (MAMDA), the Burkinabe government is setting up an agricultural insurance [4] scheme.
Its aim is to reduce the impact of climate change [5] on producers and improve their income. The project shall start with a two-year pilot phase from 2020 to 2022 in the Boucle du Mouhoun, Centre-West and East.
Rice, sorghum and maize (cereals representing 86% of Burkina Faso's annual food consumption) are mainly targeted in this initiative.
