The Sendai High Court in Japan has ordered the government and the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) to pay 1.01 billion JPY (9.5 million USD) in compensation to the 3 550 plaintiffs affected by the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe [4] that occurred on 11 March 2011.
According to the judge, the government and Tepco failed to take the necessary preventive measures even though the threat of a major tsunami was predictable.
