In partnership with the National Observatory for Road Safety (ONSR), the Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (FTUSA) launched an awareness campaign on road safety on 1 October 2020. The initiative aims to reduce road accidents [4] in Tunisia.
In 2019, the accident-related losses cost insurance companies and the national economy 700 million TND (249.857 million USD).
The campaign mainly targets the bikers. They are required to wear a helmet as it reduces by 40% the risk of death in the occurrence of an accident. Motorcycling has caused 1 922 accidents, that is 39% of the total claims recorded in October 2020. It also resulted in the death of 235 people, which represents 35% of the total claims.
Drivers are also made aware of the need to use seatbelts, which reduce by 50% the risk of a fatal accident.
