During this pandemic period, Dubai remains one of the few destinations that are open without restrictions to foreign travelers. Upon arrival, travelers must undergo a PCR test. If the test is negative, visitors can then move freely around the city where no quarantine is mandatory.
After an initial strict lockdown during the spring of 2020, the Emirati authorities have decided to open the Dubai city gates to tourists and other visitors. In this emirate devoid of natural resources, tourism accounts for 15% of the GDP.
The emirate's strategy in the fight against Covid-19 is essentially based on the vaccination of the population. Three million doses of vaccine have already been administered free of charge to nationals and foreign residents. The goal is to vaccinate 50% of the population by the end of March 2021.
Since 6 January 2021, the number of new contaminations with Covid-19 has exceeded 2000 per day. One week later, the number increased to 3000 per day. On 28 January, a peak of 3966 new cases was recorded, prompting the authorities to shut down bars and nightclubs.
