AstraZeneca to produce half the doses promised to the EU in its international network

AstraZenecaIn a statement dated 23 February 2021, the spokesman for pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca stated that half of the 180 million doses ordered by the European Union for the second half of 2021 will be produced in the group's international network. The European Union's supply chain alone is unable to produce all the orders within the deadline.

This announcement has eased the tension between the pharmaceutical group and the EU. AstraZeneca-Oxford had announced in January 2021 that it was unable to honour the contract signed in August 2020 whereby the EU had pre-ordered 400 million doses of its vaccine.
