Zurich Insurance has confirmed that it has been a victim of a cyber attack in August 2021, in Spain. The information was shared on Twitter. A hacker managed to break into the data of some customers but was unable to access passwords and banking data.
The Swiss insurer says the attack was not carried out from its internal IT system and that the affected customers were informed about the hacking on 15 August. The local police and the Spanish data protection authority were also informed.
On 4 September, the perpetrator revealed his decision to share the Swiss insurer's data on the darknet.
