On the Christmas weekend, the Omicron variant disrupted the celebrations. Nearly 8 000 flights were cancelled preventing travelers from reaching their final destinations.
The airlines with the highest number of flight cancellations were China Eastern (450), Delta Airlines (470) and United Airlines (439).
On Monday, 27 December, 16 301 flights were delayed and nearly 3 220 were cancelled. The airports with the highest number of flight cancellations were Seattle-Tacoma (U.S.), Jakarta (Singapore) and Beijing (China).
In the last week of 2021, as many as 2 800 flight connections are cancelled each day due to the pandemic.
