According to Youcef Benmicia, President of the Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies, only 12% of homeowners have a natural catastrophe insurance policy. Nearly 90% of the population do not underwrite natural catastrophe coverage, despite its mandatory nature.
In order to put an end to the non-compliance with the obligation to underwrite a natural catastrophe policy, the professionals of the sector have decided to set up a new institutional mechanism that encourages the generalization of this type of insurance.
