Berkshire Hathaway [4] has signed a definitive agreement with the New York-based insurance company Alleghany Corporation for the acquisition of all its shares.
The transaction is valued at 11.6 billion USD and corresponds to a multiple of 1.26 of the American insurer's book value as at 31 December 2021.
The deal, which is still pending the approval of the shareholders and the competent authorities, is expected to be finalized during the fourth quarter of 2022.
Following the transaction's closing, Alleghany will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary of Warren Buffett's holding company.
