Torrential rains have fallen since Tuesday 24 May 2022, on Recife, capital of the state of Pernambuco in northeast Brazil.
The heavy rains have caused landslides, large torrents of mud, the overflow of rivers and the collapse of several houses.
As of 29 May 2022, the death toll was set at 79, 56 were reported missing and 3 957 found themselves homeless.
According to local authorities, the situation could get even worse.
