The 33rd Arab General Union of Insurance meeting started on 5 June 2022 in Oran (Algeria).
Nearly 1 300 participants from 41 countries took part in the event whose main theme is: "The new situation and its impact on the insurance industry: challenges and opportunities for the Arab insurance market".
The conference also covers four areas related to the health crisis and its impact on the global insurance market: the insurance deficit, technological changes, regulation and emerging risks.
According to the Union's Secretary General, Chakib Abou Zeid, nearly 600 insurance and reinsurance companies operate in the region. The insurance penetration rate remains low at 1.5% against 7.4% world average in 2020.
