On Friday, 22 July 2022, a violent fire broke out in the Mariposa region, at the entrance to the Sierra Nevada and in the immediate vicinity of Yosemite National Park in California.
In four days, the Oak Fire destroyed 7 200 hectares of vegetation and 41 homes. Thousands of people had to be evacuated from their dwellings.
Nearly 3 000 firefighters, assisted by 17 helicopters are still mobilized to control the fire, which is considered the largest California wildfire of the season.
