The torrential rains that have hit Pakistan since mid-June 2022 have caused the worst floods the country has ever seen. One third of the territory has been submer-ged by the waves and 1 500 people have died.
The 5th largest cotton producer in the world will no longer be able to rely on its crops to feed its textile industry, which represents 10% of its GDP. Agriculture is also heavily impacted and the risk of famine now hangs over the country.
It should be remembered that this year's early monsoon comes after a period of drought during which the temperature has far exceeded seasonal normals.
