Florida-based Universal Insurance Holdings forecasts a loss of 1 billion USD due to Hurricane Ian, a part of which will be covered by its reinsurance program.
A second local insurer, United Insurance Holdings (UPC), also expects a hurricane related loss of 1 billion USD.
Risk Management Solutions (RMS) estimates that the disaster could cause losses of between 53 billion USD and 74 billion USD to the entire insurance market.
According to a report dated 11 October 2022, Ian, which hit the southeastern United States strongly at the end of September 2022, claimed the lives of 107 people, 102 of whom in Florida.
