Underwriting a health insurance policy could become compulsory for expatriates living in Bahrain in 2010. In 2008, health insurance gross premiums amounted to 56.2 million USD, that is, 12% of the market's overall premiums. The new law will make it possible to attain premiums 238 million USD and reduce State expenses by 53 million USD, that is, 6% of the total health expenditure.
