Written premiums
The ranking of Arab insurers according to the volume of issued premiums puts the Société Centrale de Réassurance (SCR), Morocco at the top of the list ahead of ARIG, CCR (Algiers), BEST Re and Egypt Re.

However, it is worth mentioning that the above ranking includes two distinct groups of reinsurers:
- The first group includes reinsurers who benefit from obligatory cessions or who take advantage of a privileged status on their national market. In this group, we can see SCR, which reports a turnover of 58% of the legal cessions, and which generally achieves 95% of its premium volume in Morocco. - The second group includes a restricted number of companies: ARIG, BEST Re, and to a lesser extent Trust, which benefits, nonetheless, from a share of the cessions of the group's insurance companies.

It is SCR, which holds, by far, most of the premiums in 2003: 182 813 635 USD.
In terms of the percentage of written premiums, ARIG ranks first with an 88% retention in 2003, followed by BEST Re at 85% and SCR at 77.4%.
For the period 2000 to 2003, it is BEST Re that has the highest retention rate : 84% of written premiums.
Among those holding the least of premiums for the year 2003, we can find Trust with a 12.3% retention.

ARIG is the company that retrocedes the least premiums in 2003. In fact, only the company's non-proportional cover cost are posted in retrocession.
BEST Re comes second in 2003 but ranked first during the period from 2000 to 2003 with 16.06% of premiums retroceded.
The companies that retrocede most of the premiums are: Trust, Egypt Re, Tunis Re and CCR Algiers (59.55% for the period 2000 to 2003).

It is CCR that has the lowest loss ratio in 2003: 17.2%. In fact, CCR's 2003 underwriting year has benefited from a considerable liberation of the outstanding claims accumulated during the previous financial years.
For the period between 2000 and 2003, it is BEST Re that has the lowest loss ratio with 53.3%, followed by Tunis Re with 55.21% and Arab Union Re with 58.35%.
Egypt Re with 122%, SCR with 97% and Trust with 96.9% have the highest loss ratios the period 2000 to 2003.
