An agricultural insurance program focused on climate data

Following a two-year feasibility study, an agricultural insurance program focused on climate data will be set up in the country in 2009. Due to its role in the country's food security, maize crop will be the first to benefit from the cover.
The pilot project, already experimented in India, Morocco and Latin America, should be adopted in Malawi. The project has been initiated by several financial institutions including the World Bank, CIC Insurance, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (Agra), the Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) and the Rockefeller Foundation.
