Natural catastrophes, the year 2016 is particularly costly for Canada

According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC), the cost of natural catastrophes borne by insurers in 2016 is 5 billion CAD (3.7 billion USD). This amount has exceeded the previous record loss of 3.2 billion CAD (2.9 billion USD) in 2013.

The May 2016 Fort McMurray blaze, alone, cost insurers 3.7 billion CAD (2.8 billion USD), that is 74% of the year's losses.
