Sailors’ insurance is now compulsory in the United Arab Emirates

Sailors’ insurance has become mandatory in the United Arab Emirates. The Federal Transport Authority (FTA), now requires that ship owners insure their sailors and crew members. The plan will cover payment delays, abandonment by ship owners, injuries or death. It is a real workmen’s compensation insurance.

The new regulatory provision has been designed for ships carrying the flag of the United Arab Emirates. Foreign vessels over 200 tons, operating in the country’s territorial waters and ports, are also required to comply with this requirement. Ship owners are compelled to have an insurance certificate before sailing.
