The cost of the UnitedHealth cyberattack would exceed 2 billion USD

July 22, 2024

Change HealthCareUnitedHealth Group estimates that losses due to the cyberattack that affected its subsidiary Change HealthCare would range between 2.3 billion USD and 2.45 billion USD for the year 2024.

This estimate is well above the forecasts announced by the insurer a few months earlier.  For the second quarter, the cost of this hacking operation reached 1.1 billion USD, reducing UnitedHealth's net result to 4.2 billion USD against 5.4 billion USD twelve months earlier.

At the end of February, Change Healthcare, a company specializing in insurance processing and billing for thousands of pharmacies and medical care providers, was the victim of one of the worst cyberattacks ever seen in the US healthcare sector.
