Gender parity required by the European Union

The European Union Court of Justice has required European insurers to comply with the gender parity principle in insurance contracts. Voted last March, this measure has raised protests by professionals. It came into force last December 21, henceforth compelling insurance companies to apply equal pricing for men and women.

Insurers were compelled to revise their tariff schedule for motor, health, life and retirement classes of business. This decision will result in an average premiums rise of 30% for women in life insurance and 11% in motor. Men will see their retirement pension decrease by 5%.
