May 12, 2025

RDC floodsOn the night of 8-9 May 2025, the village of Kasaba in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) experienced torrential rains which triggered deadly flooding.

The villagers were caught off guard in the middle of the night by the heavy downpour, which caused a river to overflow its banks and wash away everything in its path. Over 100 homes were destroyed.

At least 104 people were killed and 28 injured, most of them children and senior citizens.

A similar disaster occurred a few weeks earlier in Kinshasa, where 30 people lost their lives.
