Algeria exposed to 18 types of major risks

According to Abdelhamid Afra, National Delegate for Major Risks, Algeria is exposed to 18 types of major risks.

To address these risks, the country has adopted a strategy based on understanding, identifying the phenomenon and managing it in order to reduce its scale. A protection plan, preventive measures and means of intervention are also being devised until the situation returns to normal.

According to the expert, a proposal had been submitted for the establishment of a fund dedicated to natural disasters, which would finance all prevention activities.

Abdelhamid Afra also pointed out that investing one dinar in the prevention process would save 15 dinars in response costs.

The Algerian Government's proactive measures to combat natural disasters include the establishment, on 27 February 2024, of a National Forest Fire Intervention Committee.
