11.7 trillion USD of assets for European insurers in 2013

According to the latest newsletter released by Insurance Europe, European insurers remain the leaders of institutionnal investment in Europe.

With a grand total of 11.7 trillion USD of assets under management in 2013, insurers' investments show an increase of 3.2% compared to previous year.

Michaela Koller, managing director of Insurance Europe considers, however, that the growth of this segment is threatened by some of the aspects of the new Solvency II directive, which "oblige insurers to keep, improperly, huge amounts of capital, instead of long term investments."
