1st January 2015 renewal, decrease in reinsurance tariffs

On the eve of the Monte Carlo rendez-vous, which began on September 12, 2015, the market is expecting again a decline in reinsurance rates as at 1st January 2016. This downward trend prevailing in recent years concerns all classes of business and regions.

As in the previous years, insurers find themselves in a strong position facing reinsurers that are ready to make concessions so as to retain their market share. A significant increase in supply generated by capital inflows and a declining natural disaster loss ratio are merely weakening the reinsurers'position.

It should also be noted that the reinsurance market is going through a great period of consolidation (mergers and acquisitions) the target of which are some big players.
