682 million USD dedicated to investments in real estate

According to the latest report published by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), in 2014 insurers placed 60.73 billion KES (682 million USD) in the real estate sector, that is 17.23% of their total investments 352.37 billion KES (3.9 billion USD). The figure marks an increase of 33% compared to 2013.

As for life companies, real estate investments reached 31.5 billion KES (353.7 million USD), up by 33.5% compared to 2013. They rank third in terms of volume, behind investments in the government securities 103.62 billion KES (1.16 billion USD) and in the common shares 40.5 billion KES (454.8 million USD).

For non life companies, real estate investments represent 29.23 billion KES (328.2 million USD), up by 33.1% compared to 2013. They rank second in terms of asset allocation behind the government securities 33.05 billion KES (371 million USD).
