A huge disaster in an iron mine

The failure of two waste dams in an iron mine south of the province of Minas Gerais devastated installations early November. The human and environmental toll is quite heavy. At least six people lost their lives while 22 are still unaccounted for.

A whole village has been engulfed while streams of contaminated mud have spread out over hundreds of kilometers.
This mine is the property of two giants in the metal industry, Australian BHP Billiton and Brazilian Vale. The claim is likely to amount to 600 million USD.
