African reinsurance forum

Organized by the Société Sénégalaise de Réassurance in association with the African Insurance Organization, the African reinsurance forum was held in Dakar from October 9 to 11, 2011. This meeting, whose topic was entitled “African reinsurance: which perspectives?” gathered more than 300 professionals.

Despite positive results, the African reinsurance market is affected by the fallout of the international crisis. The participants called upon the different players to implement a new risk mutualization with a view to reinforce the capacity of the business and diversify the supply.

Hardly present on the continent, political risk was at the heart of the debate. The establishment of a pool dealing with political risks and terrorism-related risks in Africa was proposed along with the creation of a public-private partnership.
